Cheapest way to travel from one city to another in Italy?
pb k asked:
I will be going to Italy from Dec 18 - 26.
I was thinking train is probably the cheapest way to travel from one city to another. Can anyone confirm this?
Also what’s an estimate price?
The citys I will go to are Venice, Milan, Florence and Rome.
also, will it be cheaper if I book the train online rather than buying them at the train stop?
Thanks!

Should I buy the train tickets here in the U.S. before I leave, or should I buy in Europe?

What city should I visit in northern Italy for two days?
compstond asked:
In my study abroad program, I have a four day weekend in Europe coming up and want to travel somewhere. I will be spending the first two days (Friday and Saturday) in Nice, France and want to spend the other two days in northern Italy while I am close. However, I am unsure where in Italy to go.
The cities I am considering are:
- Genoa (because it is so close and a French/Italian riviera tour sounds fun)
- Milan (because it is so big and I could probably find plenty to see and do here)
- Florence (because I have heard it is beautiful and has a lot of art)
- Venice (because it is a big tourist spot, although this also puts me off)
Having said this, I am open to any other suggestions. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Traveling Italy?
I think,therefore I am asked:
We are planning to go to Italy in April. We have only four days in hand. Can anybody pls suggest some travel plan.We will start from Rome.Is it possible to cover venice, milan and Pisa if we first go down to Capri and then start to travel upward? How is the public transport in Italy? Somebody told us that it is problematic especially in cities if we hire a car.Streets are narrow and there are parking problems. Is it convenient (and suitable for us to cover the country in only 4 days) to travel by public transport with a child?Another thing, can u pls suggest a reliable, informative(train information etc.) tourism site other than italia.it.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks red_bilb from Umbria. Thank you the third answerer for the rly. information too.I too was tnot sure of that plan. That’s why I was checking your views. It’s not to be pessimistic or something like that.I know that it is hard to tell ,but can u (or anybody here) can suggest what part of Itally we should not miss. The cultural, historical, architectural part of venice, Milan, Rome or the overwhelming beauty of the Amalfi coast and the Blue Grotto of Capri. To be honest I am in dilemma.

I am going to China on the 15th and I need to leave my Passport in Milan so that my company can start the Visa process for me which is required to enter China….. BUT ….If I leave my passport in Milan…how will I enter Paris?
I was thinking…I could overnight ship my passport back to Milan once I arrive in Paris but I then realized…how will I get back into Milan when I come back???

What do we need to plan well for our son’s trip to Italy?
t jefferson asked:
My mom is taking our 14 year old son and his two cousins to Italy for a two week trip. They will travel from Rome to Capri and FLorence, Pisa, Milan, and Venice, and Sorrento (for Pompeii.) The schedule, including sights, hotels and restaurants are set, so I can’t pass on any “must see” tips.
However, ‘must brings’ ‘must do before hand’ ‘must know’ ‘must get this innoculation’ ‘must not consume this type of food/wine/ would we really helpful.
I’d like to help him pack well enough, so my son has little to carry, but enough to wear to a nice rest/cathedral and for walking/touring.
Thanks so much for any information you have to share!
I also understand cell phone are different in Europe. Can travelers rent the European standard?
How would you recommend my son take (ie in what form) his spending money. Are there worldwide ATM networks?
They’re going in June. They have a bus tour.
Interesting about the apparel. Our son is actually pretty formal. He does love hats, but doesn’t have a single baseball cap.
He almost always has on pleated trousers and if he’s not wearing a dark button front shirt, he’s wearing his homeschool theatre troupe t-shirts or che guevera t shirt.
