What document(s) do I need to enter France from Italy?

nyfashion212 asked:

I am in a very strange situation. I am traveling to Paris on Sunday. I will be entering from Milan, Italy. I am a US Citizen, NOT a citizen of the EU. This is the situation. I am going to China on the 15th and I need to leave my Passport in Milan so that my company can start the Visa process for me which is required to enter China….. BUT ….If I leave my passport in Milan…how will I enter Paris?

I was thinking…I could overnight ship my passport back to Milan once I arrive in Paris but I then realized…how will I get back into Milan when I come back???

HELP!!!!

BEFORE you travel you must check with the American Embassy they will not allow you to enter any other way without one. look up the closest American Embassy to get only their advise, trust no one else….

France and Italy are both part of the Schengen Agreement, so there shouldn’t be any checks or customs at the border. But having some sort of ID on you might be a good idea just in case.

PS. Call the embassy and confirm this before you rely on it.

there are no borders between the European Union nations. you should still need to have your passport to show that you are legal though, but you most likely wont need it
